Po tragedii z 27 września 1986 roku życie toczyło się dalej. Metallica z nowym basistą Jasonem Newstedem na pokładzie pożeglowała w kierunku rozbudowanych form. Tylko dwa numery na tym albumie trwają krócej niż sześć minut. Wypolerowana, bliska i sucha produkcja dziś może wydawać się dyskusyjna. Ale już same kompozycje nie. Ukazujące coraz większe ambicje muzyków utwory to wręcz thrash metalowe minisuity.

"...And Justice For All" to klasyka Thrash Metalu i album, na którym Metallica nagrała najbardziej progresywne kompozycje w swoim dorobku. W programie m.in. "One" - klejnot precyzyjnie skanalizowanej agresji. Ten album znaczył przełom. Teledysk do "One" symbolicznie otworzył nowy rozdział. Metallica z gwiazdy gatunku przeobraziła się w megagwiazdę rocka.
